I was having one of those weeks where everything was going wrong, and then I looked down to see a diamond missing from my engagement ring. Deep sigh.
I bought a vintage ring from (ahem) some other jeweler, knowing it had visible imperfections. I liked the sense that it had history. But I didn't realize until the stone fell out and I took it to D'Antonio & Klein that it had a whole bunch of structural problems. Another diamond was about to fall out, and a bunch of the prongs weren't actually holding onto the center stone. I also had no realization how dirty it was when the store sold it to me.
D'Antonio & Klein replaced the diamond and fixed a whole bunch of prongs for a very reasonable price. But the craziest bit to me is how much BETTER the whole ring looks! What looked crooked and imperfect before now looks exactly as imperfect as you want your vintage ring to look, and not a bit more. It looks much more well-made and it's clean and sparkly. I feel so much happier every time I look down!
